Mt. Vernon NY, 10550, 52, 53

Mount Vernon is a city rich in history and tradition, built on the backs of men and women who worked hard to make this a working wonderful and productive community of homes and people.
From its inception, this was a planned community, fashioned from high hopes and modest expectations. The first residents were hard-working people who came up from neighboring New York City seeking a genteel and tranquil way of life away from the tumultuous existence of urban living.
Mount Vernon outgrew these notions many decades ago. The City has evolved from a spirited, insular experiment involving participants from basically similar backgrounds to a cosmopolitan reality - a diverse, liberalized order with representatives from over 98 different nations living in close proximity to his neighbor and learning from one another.
The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the City of Mount Vernon. The person holding this office has the responsibility of overseeing the operation of city departments.

The Comptroller, elected on a citywide basis for a four-year term, recommends financial policies and advises the Mayor and the City Council in the preparation of the budget.
