Pleasantville NY, 10570

Located just 31 miles north from Grand Central Terminal in NYC, the Village of Pleasantville is "home, sweet home" for over 7000 residents. Its name is synonymous with extraordinary neighborliness, volunteerism, tranquility and tolerance, attributes that are embraced by all who live or work here.

Settled in 1695 and formerly known as "Clark's Corners," the Village was once a stop along the Underground Railroad. Pleasantville became an autonomous local government in 1897. The original home of The Readers Digest corporation, the Village is now a regional destination, well reputed for the quality of its public services, public schools, fine arts, dining, and community experiences.
When in Pleasantville be sure to travel along historic Bedford Road.  This corridor links Pleasantville's Central Business District to its "Old Village" business district.  Some of the oldest homes in the Village are located along the route, exemplifying period architecture.

Along the way you'll also discover an outstanding public library, a new elementary school, and seasonal outdoor cafes.  Loop back along Manville Road and stroll the intersecting avenues (Washington & Wheeler)  for shopping, dining, and personal service establishments.
The Village of Pleasantville was incorporated in 1897.  Our municipality is governed by an elected board, known collectively as the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees holds public meetings starting at 7:00PM every Monday (excluding Holidays) at Village Hall to conduct Village business.

The Board of Trustees is comprised of a Mayor and four Trustees, each elected to three year terms.  They are responsible for the management of the Village.  In order to fulfill this mandate, Village Law provides local elected officials broad statutory powers.  The Trustees of the Village are authorized to:

Appoint officials to administer policy, manage day to day business and fiscal assets, and perform public services;

Establish other boards, commissions, and municipal departments to facilitate the Board's policies and goals;

Adopt local legislation;
Develop capital plans and budgets;
Adopt comprehensive plans relating to land use; and
Acquire physical assets such as parkland, inventory, and buildings to house operations.
