Although Irvington is a short distance from much larger urban areas – 45 minutes from NYC, 15 minutes from White Plains, NY and 25 minutes from Stamford, CT – it has maintained the charm of a small town. It has a population of about 6,500 and covers approximately 2 square miles. Starting in the 1850's, Irvington began to attract wealthy NYC residents to the area. Enticed by the cool summer breezes off the Hudson and the rural setting next to the river, they built large summer residences for their families. Many of these estates remain but housing for today's residents is quite diverse, covering all possibilities. There is pride in the quality of our schools, recreational facilities, library and churches. Volunteerism thrives in the fire department, ambulance corps, Town Hall Theater and sports leagues. Various government boards and community organizations are the cement of our civic spirit. Magnificent views of the Hudson River, combined with a small-town flavor and easy access to Manhattan, make the Village of Irvington an ideal place to live. Irvington is on the Metro North line.

Educational Facilities

The Irvington School District is focused on higher education, including its nationally recognized Schools for Excellence, which are rich in music and athlectic programs. Parks and Recreational Facilities

There are three parks open to village residents with a village parks permit – Matthiessen Park, Memorial Park and Halsey Pond. The newest park, Scenic Hudson Park, is open to all and contains a basketball court, soft ball fields, paths for strolling and spectacular views of the Hudson. The Parks and Recreation Department is located in the Isabel K. Benjamin Community Center. Programs are offered throughout the year for all ages and all residents.
